Authentication

Authentication, also known as certification or legalization, is an activity conducted by the Chinese Consulate General in New York, at the request of a natural person, a legal person, or an organization, to authenticate or legalize the last seal and signature on a document issued in the U.S. in order for the document to be recognized and used in China..

In order for the documents to have legal effects in China, the documents first need to be translated into Simplified Chinese. The detailed procedures are described below.  The Chinese Consulate General in New York only authenticates documents that are executed in America and have been certified by authorities in the consular jurisdiction of the Chinese Consulate in New York (namely the States of Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Vermont)

Please also note that in order for the documents to be authenticated and legalized, a copy of the passport is required.  There are no exceptions.
