Chinese Dubbing Services

In the People's Republic of China, all foreign films or advertisements need to be dubbed into Mandarin if they are to be shown on a public television station.  Dubbing, by definition, is the substitution of the voices of the actors shown on the screen by those of different performers, who normally speak in Mandarin Chinese.

Historically, China has dubbed all foreign films and TV series into Mandarin Chinese.  In addition to accurate translation of the original texts, Chinese dubbing services make their best effort to match the lips of the actors, or lip sync.  Generally, lip sync can easily be done for most European languages such as English, French, German, but not for Japanese, as Japanese normally has more syllables than Chinese.
