Martin Luther King, Jr and Obama's Legacy in Haiti's Earthquake

"I am very optimistic about the future," Martin Luther King, Jr told the BBC's Bob McKenzie in 1964. "On the basis of this, we may be able to get a Negro president in less than 40 years. I would think that this could come in 25 years or less." 46 years later, Barack Obama became the first African American President in the history of the United States.  Obama's legacy in Haiti for the recent earthquake will be remembered as well.

Martin Luther King, Jr. is an optimistic visionary.  Back in 1964, he stated that "we may be able to get a Negro president in less than 40 years. I would think that this could come in 25 years or less." 46 years later, his vision came true.  Mr. Barack Obama became the first African American to be the President of the United States.

In the aftermath of the earthquake of Haiti, Mr. Obama promised quick and major earth relief for Haiti.  He stated:

"In any extraordinary catastrophe like this, the first several weeks are just going to involve getting immediate relief on the ground. And there are going to be some tough days over the next several days. People are still trying to figure out how to organize themselves. There's going to be fear, anxiety, a sense of desperation in some cases."

In memory of Martin Luther King, Jr, we wish Mr. Obama succeed in his earthquake relief efforts, for the people of Haiti, for African Americans, and for the people of the world.
