Yelp and Google. Class Action Lawsuit Possible as Some Complain of Yelp.com's Unfair Practices. Google Might Help to Fix Them

Some have complained that Yelp, through its website Yelp.com, has used unfair practices such as extortion.  Google's acquisition, if it succeeds, might help Yelp to fix the potential problems.

Los Angeles.  It seems that Google is considering to acquire Yelp.  It might be a good news for Google, but it is a good news for millions of small businesses, for a different reason.  Some have been complaining that Yelp extorts them using unfair practices.  If Google acquires Yelp, these unfair practices will at the end stop, as small businesses have entrusted in Google, believing that Google is fair for the most part, and will bring its corporate integrity into Yelp as well.

In an article titled "Yelp and the Business of Extortion 2.0" by Kathleen Richards posted on Eastbayexpress.com, several small businesses owners have described how representatives of Yelp called them and offered to remove negative reviews for a certain monthly price.  It could be true, as some of other small business owners not mentioned in that article have complained similarly.

"Yelp called me and asked me to pay a monthly price in order to remove negative reviews about my business", says Fernando, a small business owners. "They have such high rankings on Google and it definitely affects our business".

"I have asked my SEO (Search Engine Optimization) company to help me rank higher than Yelp because the reviews on Yelp do not reflect the truth.  Some of our customers tried to post some positive reviews, but they just don't show up", says Eugene, another small business owner.

"It is extremely frustrating.  I think Yelp as an extortion company, and they should be sued.  However, not many people have the time to gather the evidence." Continues Fernando.  "It could be a good class action lawsuit in this field."

Welcome to the new digital age.  If a class action lawsuit is launched against Yelp, it will be the first class action lawsuit of this kind.

However, Google is said to be in talks of buying Yelp.  If it succeeds in doing so, it might change Yelp's corporate practice.

"Google is a large company.  Its practice has been mostly fair.  I believe it is a company of integrity.  If it purchases Yelp, Yelp might abandon some of its practices." Says James Wang, a business insider.

For Google, if purchasing Yelp makes sense financially, it will be a good thing for the company.  It will also be good for those small business owners who have the complains.

As far as we know, their hopes are high.
