China Business Nuisance: Your Website is Blocked There.

As the income of an average Chinese person increases and more and more Chinese people become powerful consumers, many American businesses trying to capitalize in this huge potential market are now facing a China business nuisance.  That is, their websites are blocked in China.  Only a handful of companies offer the services of unblocking your website from China.

Los Angeles.  China has been growing rapidly and the consumers are becoming more deep pocked.  It is true that the contrast of China's growing economy and America's increasing weakened consumer base is becoming more and more evident.  Therefore, many American based companies have been trying to capitalize the increasingly dynamic Chinese economy as well as its consumers.  The cheapest way to do it?  Have the website translated into Chinese by a Chinese translation company.  The possible nuisance? The website is blocked in China so that people cannot access it.

SOAProjects is one of the companies whose website is blocked by China.  The company has an office in Shanghai, and its own employees cannot access their company's own website in China.  Some other companies have similar problems. One of the most famous websites that was blocked by China is Wikipedia.  Despite several appeals to the Chinese government, some of the pages of Wikipedia are still blocked in China.

It is hard to have your website unblocked from China.  Only a few companies offer such service.   Chinese Advertising Agencies Inc. is one of them.  Among many services that they offer, one of them helps companies to unblock their websites from China.  "We do not need to change the existing website's domain name, nor the server.  We use proprietary techniques to help companies' websites to be seen from China." Says Sally An, the technician.

"We do not know why China blocked our website.  It is extremely frustrating." says an employee at SOAProjects.  Indeed, China seems to block websites randomly, without a specific pattern.

"Our Yahoo Store website was block a few years ago.  And we don't know why." Says Andy Li, a manager at Vitasprings.com

Newspapers and other websites are frequently blocked by China as well.  New York Times, Washington Post, Los Angeles Times are all blocked by China during certain time periods.  Most news related overseas Chinese language websites are blocked by China as well. Wenxuecity.com, one of the most popular US based Chinese language website, is not accessible by people in China. The website of World Journal, the largest Chinese newspaper in the United States, is also blocked by China.  (Most of the advertisers of wenxuecity.com and the website of World Journal do not know this fact, or do not care this fact, as many of them try to promote their products or services to the Chinese speaking population in the United States).  Jonathan Zittrain and Benjamin Edelman of the Berkman Center for Internet & Society of Harvard Law School published a paper titled "Empirical Analysis of Internet Filtering in China", analyzing the patterns of the websites blocked by China.  The paper can be read by going to http://cyber.law.harvard.edu/filtering/china/

With the help of website unblocking service from companies such as Chinese Advertising Agencies Inc., many companies feel relieved as the service offers 100% money back guarantee.  However, for many business owners, the fear of other China business nuisances still remains.
