Canada's Tourism is Expected to Boom as China Lists Canada as One of the Travel Destinations During Harper's First Trip to China

Canada, whose currency is considered "fairly sound" according to international investor Jim Rogers, expects its tourism to boom as China just listed Canada as one of the travel destinations for Chinese citizens during Prime Minister Stephen Harper's first visit to China

During the Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper's first visit to China, China listed Canada as one of the approved travel destinations for Chinese citizens.  It could mean that millions of dollars will be spent by the Chinese to the Canadian tourism industry.  It is especially true for Canada as China is already one of the most favored immigration destinations for Chinese citizens.

A joint communique was issued by Chinese and Canadian officials, which happened during Prime Minister Stephen Harper's first trip to China.  It made easier for Chinese travelers to visit Canada on tourist visas, not just as students or for business reasons as it was in the past. It also allows Canada to advertise as a tourist destination in China.

"Canada is probably even more favored than the United States in terms of travel and immigration destinations for the Chinese.  It is much easier, more hassle-free, and much more friendly.  Plus, the public welfare and medical system is much better than the United States." Says James Wang, a tour guide in one of the Chinese Travel Agencies in Los Angeles.

"We have already seen a surge in interests for Chinese visitors to travel to Canada.  With the approved travel destination status, there will be more business for us." Says Peter Wei, an operator for Chinese Travel Agency in Toronto.

"People will not just visit here, they will also shop.  They will not just shop for products, they will also shop for houses.  This will add to another pressure of already high priced real estate properties in Vancouver and Toronto, two of the most favored places for the Chinese to purchase real estate properties in Canada", says Dawn Feng, a person familiar with real estate property prices in Vancouver.

According to the information published by the Canadian Prime Minister's Office, nearly 160,000 Chinese travelers visited Canada last year. Chinese visitors had the highest average length of stay in Canada ,28 nights, and spent more than visitors from any other country, nearly $1,650 each.

"We expect to see more Chinese travelers to Canada." Says Peter Wei. According to a Conference Board of Canada survey, approved destination status is expected to boost the yearly rate of travel to Canada from China by up to 50 per cent by 2015.

"Many Canadian travel related companies, including hotels and hostels, have already translated their websites into Chinese.  Many are planning to do so.  They may find us, Abacus Chinese Translation Services, to be helpful.  Because we not only translate their websites into Chinese, we also do consultation works and help them to attract more Chinese visitors than their competitors." Says Sunny Wang, a Chinese translator. "Plus, we know all the Chinese travel agencies in Canada."

It is a sweet deal for Canada in which China practically gave Canada a golden goose.  How many golden eggs will the golden goose lay? We will wait and see.
